Not sure I'll ever get to laundry on the floor level of comfort for company, but having people over these days definitely means they're seeing full laundry basket hampers, a bath not fully emptied of toys, and kid art projects in various states of completion on counters and/or floors!!
I continually love party advice like this that takes pressure off the host. You do what you can, it's okay to not be perfect, and everyone will still be happy! More parties, more community! Yes please!
